#Skills For Life

Our vision

By 2023 The Scouts will have prepared more young people with skills for life, supported by amazing leaders delivering an inspiring programme. We will be growing, more inclusive, shaped by young people and making a bigger impact in our communities.

We believe that skills for life can prepare better futures for:

  • Young people – by giving them the character, employability and practical skills they need to succeed

  • Volunteers – by equipping them with better skills, tools and support to deliver inspiring programmes

  • Society – by bringing people together and improving the lives of those in our communities.

East of England Scouting covers Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Each week we deliver programme activities to over 55,000 young people across the region to give them the Skills For Life to get on in life.

We have a fully searchable Programme Hub that anyone can use to select activities for all ages 6-18.

Join Us

We have volunteers who do many different types of support to Scouts. This can be Beaver leaders, treasurers, skill based such as kayakers and mountaineers.

Active Members

Feedback from leaders like you across said that you needed a central place to get programme activities from. So we have designed a hub for you to access programme ideas. You can easily filter and search the hub as well as using the out of the box Spring Into Scouting Challenge weekly activities.

There are activities suitable for video sessions (e.g. Zoom), home assignments and socially distanced face to face. We will also be adding new activities which follow the changing Covid restrictions.

  • We enable young people with #SkillsForLife thought a quality programme

  • The Programme Hub is here to help you plan and deliver a fun, quality programme

  • The Online Programme hub is a place for East of England Scout Volunteers and Young people to; upload and download fantastic programme ideas, and resources, from presentations to plans, documents, videos, escape rooms etc. – We want to see them all!

  • This online programme hub is to complement all other methods of planning your programme

  • The Programme Hub is here to Support you now for either an online or a blended programme and here for the suitable future to help you also for programme sharing when Scouts seems back to ‘normal’

  • You can search for items to help your planning e.g. ‘quiz’

  • You can upload ‘tags’ to help people discover your resources e.g. ‘Teamwork Challenge’ ‘Digital’

  • Take a look and don’t forget to upload your resources!

Keeping Safe Online

When you are running online video meetings (Zoom, Teams, etc), make sure that privacy protocols are followed. More information can be found here.
If Zoom bombing occurs, (uninvited guests illegally gaining access to the meeting password), ensure safeguarding procedures (Yellow card) are followed immediately.

Following on from the success Regional Summer Challenge and Winter Challenge, East of England Scouts are excited to launch the Spring Into Scouting Challenge.

Each week we will be sharing with you a Challenge or Activity for you to complete with your Sections in order to achieve our Limited Edition Spring into Scouting Badge.

Follow us on EastEnglandScouting on Facebook to share in your successes and to let us know how you are getting on with our varied activities.

Each young person who participates in the Programme, including badges and awards, should face a similar degree of challenge, and requirements can be adapted according to each young person’s abilities.
